Hair Color Envy

Although I can't pull the look off myself, I absolutely love seeing girls dye their hair extreme and vibrant colors. Not only is the move bold and a great form of expression, it's also empowering and fun! As I've said in the past, I'm a huge admirer of creative and unique people who put themselves and their work out there. What better way to do that than with your hair?

On Love & Indifference

We tend to think of things in terms of polar opposites; an antonym can be defining. Probably the most popular pair that comes to my mind is love and hate. We love our significant other, we hate our ex. It’s a typical convention of thinking.

But is the opposite of love really hate? I thought so until I came across this quote from political activist Elie Wiesel:

“The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference.”

While Wiesel is referring to world events, his insight can certainly be applied to our personal lives. We so strongly want to prove we don’t love something that instead we say we hate it. But hatred implies feeling, even passion. And in the context of love and romance past, I’m starting to believe Wiesel has a point.

Stay Weird!

I find it ironic that the word weird can have such a negative connotation to it; especially when antonyms such as standard, average, and conventional personally give me the creeps. Think about it: Does it make sense to shame the qualities and characteristics that make us unique? Do you really want to be someone that just gets lost in the crowd of mundane judgment.  Is it always necessary to be the person that you're expected to be?

I for one embrace the weirdness. By doing so, I am able to be more open to change and more loving towards myself. Accepting my quirks allows me to make fun of myself while still having fun with myself.  Life is an epic short story and the last thing you want to do is turn it into a unfulfilled five minute snooze feast!

Here Are Some Quotes from  Notable Peeps That Accept and Embrace the idea of Being Weird:

"Make sure you get your one portion of weirdness a day, it keeps your bones strong."
Cara Delevingne

I'm thankful for weird people out there 'cause they're some of the most creative people.
- Channing Tatum

I think the most important thing in life is self-love, because if you don't have self-love, and respect for everything about your own body, your own soul, your own capsule, then how can you have an authentic relationship with anyone else?
- Shailene Woodley

“I think everybody's weird. We should all celebrate our
individuality and not be embarrassed or ashamed of it. "
Johnny Depp

I've always straddled a weird line - there's a lot of mainstream stuff that I love. At the same, I still feel like an outsider. I'm the outsider who's on the inside.

- Zooey Deschanel

A Beautiful Speech on Valentine's Day by Ellen Page

There are only a number speeches in my life that have not only conveyed inspiration and truth, but have also moved me in such a deep way. On Valentine's Day, actress Ellen Page came out as lesbian during her beautiful speech at the Time to Thrive Conference held by the Human Rights Campaign.

Thank you, Ellen Page! Thank you for reminding all of us that the only thing more important than loving and accepting one another for who they are, is accepting and loving ourselves first.
